Privacy policy
Cruzn is operated by Esteban Sierra under the Sierra Labs name (“Cruzn,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains how Cruzn handles information when you use the Cruzn mobile app, website, and related support services. Questions or privacy requests may be sent to support@cruzn-app.com.
Cruzn is initially launching for people traveling in the Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, and El Paso, Texas, United States border region. This service-area description does not limit privacy rights that apply where a user lives.
Information we handle
Account and authentication information
When you create or use a Cruzn account, we process your email address, password, account identifier, authentication session, account tier, and language preference. Supabase provides authentication. Your password is sent to Supabase for authentication and is not stored in Cruzn’s profile database.
The app stores authentication session information in secure storage on your device so you can remain signed in. If you use password recovery, your email address, recovery code, new password, and related authentication information are processed to complete that request. The app does not intentionally retain the recovery code or new password in its ordinary app state after the recovery flow.
App and service information
Cruzn uses account role information to decide which features you can access. For approved contributors or operators, we may process invite information, contribution actions, timestamps, trust or eligibility information, and related service records. These records help operate contributor features, prevent duplicate submissions, and produce service results.
Cruzn displays public border-crossing information, including bridge and lane conditions derived from official U.S. Customs and Border Protection data. This public operational information is not information collected from your Cruzn account. Ordinary wait-time viewing does not require you to submit precise location.
Website and support information
When you visit this website, Cloudflare may process technical request, security, and diagnostic information such as IP address, browser or device information, requested pages, timestamps, and security signals to deliver and protect the site. Cruzn does not use an advertising tracker or optional website analytics in this launch site.
If you email support or submit a privacy or deletion request, we process the message, your email address, and any information you choose to include so we can respond and handle the request. Do not send passwords, recovery codes, payment information, or unnecessary identity documents.
Maps, Mapbox processing, and diagnostics
Cruzn uses the Mapbox Maps SDK to display maps. Requests needed to load and operate the maps may provide Mapbox with information such as an IP address, device and operating-system information, app and SDK information, map-resource or request details, timestamps, and identifiers or measurements used to provide, protect, and diagnose the service and measure usage for billing. Mapbox describes this handling of licensed-app end-user data in its Product Terms, Data Processing Addendum, and Product Privacy Policy.
The Mapbox SDK’s optional usage, performance, and diagnostic telemetry is enabled by default unless your device already has a saved opt-out. Depending on the SDK’s behavior, device settings, app permissions, and features in use, telemetry can include device or app information and, when an app feature causes device location to be gathered and the user has granted location permission, de-identified location and related usage data. Cruzn v1 does not offer navigation or features that request your device location. That current product scope is not a promise that Mapbox will never receive location or other technical data.
You can review or change the Mapbox telemetry choice in Cruzn: open a bridge map, tap the map information button, choose Mapbox Telemetry, and use the option shown by your device to participate or opt out. A choice already stored by the Mapbox SDK remains respected. Opting out of optional telemetry does not stop the map-service, security, or billing requests needed to provide maps. Supabase, Mapbox, the email-delivery service used for account messages, Cloudflare, mobile operating systems, and app-distribution services may process request, security, crash, delivery, or diagnostic information under their own terms and privacy practices.
How we use information
- create and authenticate accounts, maintain sessions, and support password recovery;
- show bridge, lane, wait-time, and map information;
- provide and safeguard approved contributor and operator features;
- deliver and protect the website, respond to requests, diagnose problems, and prevent misuse; and
- process account deletion and respond to support or privacy requests.
How information is shared
We provide information to service providers as needed to operate Cruzn. Current service categories include cloud authentication and database hosting, maps and map-resource delivery, account-email delivery, website hosting and security, mobile build or distribution, and platform diagnostics. Supabase provides authentication and backend services, Mapbox provides maps, Cloudflare hosts and protects this website, and Zoho provides account-email delivery and the human support mailbox. Some providers determine aspects of their own processing under their terms. Mapbox describes circumstances in which it processes licensed-app end-user data as an independent controller in its Product Privacy Policy.
Retention and deletion
We retain account and service records while needed to operate your account and Cruzn. We do not state a fixed ordinary retention period for account profiles, roles, invites, contribution events, or trust records. Service-provider backups, security records, and technical logs may follow different retention schedules.
The verified in-app deletion design removes the authentication account, profile, private reports, contribution history, roles, trust records, private trip sessions and points, queue observations, and matching invite-email records. It clears identifying references in other records, expires affected queue snapshots and precise tails, stops client collection, and clears local authentication state. Non-identifying public aggregates may remain. Information may also remain in provider backups or security logs according to provider schedules that are still being verified.
Pre-launch status: account deletion is not active in production yet, and the outside-app email process has not been implemented or tested. An email to support does not automatically delete an account. See the account-deletion status page for current availability.
Security
Cruzn uses safeguards intended to limit access to account and contributor information, including authenticated access controls, user-specific database rules, secure on-device session storage, and encrypted network connections provided by app platforms and service providers. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
Audience and children
Cruzn is intended for users age 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. If you are under the age of majority where you live, use Cruzn only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If a parent or guardian believes a child under 13 provided personal information to Cruzn, they may contact us so we can take appropriate steps to remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Cruzn’s features, providers, or legal obligations change. We will post the updated policy with a new effective date and provide any additional notice required for material changes.
